Temperature sensor

The S4H-TM-xx temperature sensor is fitted with an internal and external probe and with a 2m long cable. The sensor can be used as a simple temperature probe or as a thermostat with two adjustable temperature limits. Information about temperature is sent from the sensor to the cloud via Wi-Fi and the home AP at 15-min, 30-min, 1-hour, 2-hour or 4-hour intervals. In the thermostat mode, notifications are sent outside of the selected time intervals when the temperature falls below or exceeds the preset limit. Information on the cloud is sent to your smartphone, where you can display it using the Smart4house® application as a numeric value or in the form of a diagram. You can use your smartphone to set or change the display mode, message sending intervals or monitored temperature limits. The measuring range of the internal probe is from 0 to +50°C, and the external sensor range is from -30 to +50°C.

What is the temperature sensor used for?

The temperature sensor measures the temperature of the surrounding environment ranging from 0 to +50°C. The external sensor measures temperatures from -30 to +50°C. Information about the temperature is sent via Wi-Fi and your AP to a cloud and then to your smartphone/tablet.

What types of mobile phones are these applications designed for and where can I get them?

At present, the temperature sensor may only be used with smartphones running iOS.

How many versions of the temperature sensor are available?

The sensor is available in one version:
a) The S4H-TM-0x sensor powered from an external power source via a 5 VDC micro USB cable (not included in the package) or from two AA alkaline batteries, LR 6 (included in the package),

What is the best place to install the temperature sensor?

The temperature sensor must be placed in the area where you want to monitor the temperature (internal sensor) and at the same time it must be within reach of the AP/router (Access Point). When selecting the sensor location, please take into account the presence of heat sources and air circulation in the relevant area. The sensor should be located in an accessible location to enable easy initialisation and battery replacement. The sensor must be installed in areas without water vapour condensation and with temperatures ranging from 0 to 50°C or 32 to 122°F or 273 to 323°K.
The FCC requires that a distance of 20 cm is maintained between the sensor and people.

Which batteries can I use?

You can use any alkaline or lithium AA size 1.5 V LR6 batteries. Respect polarity of the batteries while inserting and replacing the batteries. The polarity is shown on the product specification label on the removable cover.

How long can I use the sensor before replacing the batteries?

The life of the batteries depends on how many messages you send. Therefore, we recommend using an external power source.

Do I have to check the condition of the batteries regularly?

No. You are continuously informed about the status of batteries in your application in your smartphone/tablet. Should the battery voltage drop to approx. 20% of its capacity, your detector will inform you through your application. Do not leave discharged batteries in the device.

How do I check that the signal from the AP is strong enough?

On your smartphone or tablet you will find an icon showing the signal strength. If you place your smartphone in the same location where the sensor will be installed, you can check the signal strength coming from the AP for which the sensor will be configured.

Do I need to have an activated SIM card in order to receive information from the temperature sensor?

No, you do not have to if you are within WiFi signal range. If you want to receive information even outside the Wi-Fi range, you will need a SIM card with activated mobile data tariff. Apple Push Notification Service – APNS is used to transfer information.

How is the temperature sensor installed and initialised?

The installation and initialisation procedure is illustrated in the instruction manual which is supplied with the sensor.

How long is the warranty period?

The dealer determines the length of the warranty.

Are data transmitted by the temperature sensor protected?

Data transmissions between the sensor and cloud are encrypted.

Which iOS versions are compatible?

The temperature sensor is compatible with iOS version 6.0 and higher.

How does the sensor work?

The temperature sensor measures the temperature of both probes at 5-minute intervals. If the application is set to evaluate temperature limits ( Hi limit, Lo limit), the measured values are compared with these limits. When the temperature rises above or falls below the set limit, a message is sent to your smartphone/tablet immediately. If limits are not evaluated or the temperature limit is not exceeded, information about the temperature is sent out at preset intervals, ranging between 15 minutes and 4 hours.

Which power source should I use for power from a USB?

The temperature sensor with the 2x LR6 / USB power supply is fitted with battery holders and with a USB micro power supply connector. The temperature sensor can be powered only by batteries or through the USB connector, or it can be fitted with batteries and powered from the USB connector. In this case, when the power supply from the USB connector is interrupted, the temperature sensor automatically switches to battery supply.
As a power supply you can use a regular 230 VAC power adapter with USB micro connector, providing that it supplies 5 VDC voltage with a current load above 300 mA.

Why is cloud technology used for Smart4house sensors and what is its significance?

The information sent from the sensors are transmitted to the cloud, where it is stored and further processed. The Smart4house application communicates with the cloud. Thanks to this communication, the user has access to data anywhere an Internet connection is available and can modify preset sensor parameters using a smartphone or tablet (temperature limits which define when messages are sent, message frequency). The cloud runs on secured and backed-up servers, significantly increasing the reliability of the solution while providing high flexibility.

Can I display the sensor status on several smartphones/tablets?

Yes, you can. You need to install the Smart4house application on a smartphone/tablet running iOS. Activation instructions are available in the attached manual which also contains detail instructions for iOS.

Does the sensor react on new settings immediately?

No. Informations about setting of temperature sensor (temperature limits, sending interval) are sended from Smartphone/tablet to the sensor when is sensor sending the message. If we make a change settings, this will come into effect in the time which is corresponding to the sending interval, maximum up to 4 hours. If you want, you can change settings of temperature sensor immediately by a short press the button on the sensor.
